Topaz studio presets5/27/2023 Topaz Labs shifted to a flat-rate model, though, with the release of the latest version. Topaz Studio was first released as a free app with paid modules for specific adjustments and effects. However, that’s the program’s guiding philosophy. It’s an extremely difficult line to walk, as an over-dependence on ‘creative filters’ makes it all too easy to wind up with cookie-cutter results. The most important thing to remember about Topaz Studio is that it’s aimed at users who want a simplified editing process that still creates superbly stylized images. Let me save you some time: I’ll take you through Topaz Studio with a photographer’s eye. I’m sure you feel the same way about your own workflows but can’t be bothered to put every new program through its paces. I always want to make sure that I’m using the best tools out there, whether I’m editing photos for clients or retouching my personal images. Why Trust Me for This Topaz Studio ReviewĪs a long-time reviewer and photographer, I’ve tested out nearly every photo editor under the sun. Why Trust Me for This Topaz Studio Review.Poor interface design choices & scaling issues. What I Don’t Like: Basic adjustments can be slow when first used. What I Like: Edits applied non-destructively as filter layers. While they’re undeniably impressive to look at, you’re probably not going to use all of them regularly.Ĭonsidering the high price point for an editor that doesn’t include their advanced tools, you can definitely find better value elsewhere. As a result, Topaz Studio is a bit of a bad bargain at the moment: you’re essentially paying for complicated Instagram filters. Unfortunately, the most exciting tools developed by Topaz Labs aren’t included in Topaz Studio by default, though they can integrate easily enough for an extra fee. However, you probably won’t want to use it as your everyday photo editor. This makes it easy to turn your photos into complex artistic creations using preset Looks and filters. Its claim to fame is that it’s built from the ground up, focusing on ‘creative photo editing’ rather than being another program with the same old adjustment sliders. Also the original plug-ins.Topaz Studio 2 is one of the newest photo editors in an increasingly crowded category. For me, though, I'll be sticking with Original for my presets, plus crop/rotate, and the histogram. Anyway, this probably doesn't apply to most users/updaters.Īnd FWIW, Studio 2 can be opened as a plug-in in Affinity Photo - Windows. I confess, I'm somewhat overly cautious (paranoid? nah, not me!), I keep my computer locked down as much as I can, but the only time this is a problem is when I use an online installer or updater this includes PDF-Xchange Editor, Paint.NET, one or two others those other programs can be updated manually, Topaz is the only one that doesn't offer this option. Re: my previous note about temporarily disabling my firewall: this solution was provided by Topaz tech support apparently I wasn't the only one with this problem. I prefer cropping, maybe adjusting horizon, before tweaking the image. Hopefully, it will be added soon.Īlso missing?: crop & rotate tool. (And I can finally quit wishing for an update to photoFXlab! )Īs noted in other replies, this is definitely not implemented - yet. Once they get plug-ins operational, it might - might - replace Original Studio for me. My initial impression is that it works really quick, compared to other software (Affinity Photo, PSP x8, Nikon Capture NX-D, Olympus Workspace). I work only an a notebook computer: HP ENVY 17.3" LCD Intel Core i7-6500U 1TB HDD 12GB, with both an nVidia GeForce 940M, 2GB video memory, as well as Intel HD Graphics 520. And any home-brewed presets don't migrate to S2 at this time. Legacy plug-ins do not work at this time. It's not as bad as I was expecting, and they say that there is still some work to be done.ĭO NOT uninstall your original Topaz Studio (they call it Studio 1). (And I don't have any other software running that may want to "phone home".) Once installation and/or updates are completed, I immediately re-enable my firewall. I had to do the same for the three AI products I have (DeNoise AI, Sharpen AI, Adjust AI) - I don't do this for Original Studio updates. Note that for many Windows users (possibly just Win 10? I really don't know), we have to TEMPORARILY disable the firewall during installation, and probably for updates. I received the email also, followed the instructions, and was able to install.
